“Oteere,” in Ekiti Yoruba means a certain kind of dance gesture, I explore how we keep going and find joy
even when life throws its toughest challenges at us. On this bright blue background, you see figures in motion,
caught within a swirling, almost explosive burst of red and gold. It’s like a storm or chaos is happening around
them, but they are still dancing, still moving. The central figure, especially, is actively engaged, even flying
with a basketball, showing how we can find our rhythm and passion, or play our part, despite the turmoil. For
me, this painting is about resilience – how we find our way to keep dancing through the storms of life, finding
strength, beauty, and even a sense of play in moments of difficulty.
