“In Je’n pe meji Obinrin” (which comes from the Yoruba saying, ‘Let me be two’), I’m really digging into the changing face of relationships, especially for women today. It’s about how many women, particularly in the 20th and 21st centuries, influenced by things like Western culture, don’t want their husband to have another partner. Against this blue background, you see figures interacting, some blending, some distinct, symbolizing these complex connections. There’s a central figure, and others reaching or observing. For me, this painting asks a big question: where are we headed with relationships, especially with the growing number of women and the rise of feminist ideas? It’s about navigating love, tradition, and modern expectations in a world that’s always changing.
