Rock black was inspired by the inferiority complex so to speak exhibited by some Africans both home and abroad. The posture and gaze of the subject is rendered as to preach pride, boldness and beauty in being black. The twin carvings is to preach the beauty of culture of the Yoruba people and significance of such carving in Yoruba culture as it relates to fertility and blessings. The golden floral patterns symbolizes the tropical rainforestĀ in west Africa.
In the heart of the ebony stone,
A figure stands proud, not alone.
Rock black, a symbol of ancestry’s song,
Of strength, beauty, where we belong.
Gaze meets the sky with bold allure,
African pride, radiant and pure.
Inferiority’s chains, now shattered and cracked,
By this posture, this Rock black.
Twin carvings tell tales untold,
Yoruba culture, stories bold.
Fertility’s dance, blessings untold,
In these carvings, our roots enfold.
Golden flowers, rainforest’s grace,
Symbol of our ancestral place.
Tropical whispers in the breeze,
Whispering secrets, with ease.
So stand tall, Rock black in the sun,
Inferiority complex, now undone.
For we are bold, beautiful, and free,
Embracing our roots, our history.
